Makeup – My Summer Essentials

In summer, you want your makeup to be effective and last all day.

Summer beauty makeup essentialsOn hot summer days, we all need our makeup to last. I have summer essentials I wear or use almost every day. I am a mom of 4, with little time to myself. So to be on my list, those beauty products need to be light but efficient, easy to apply in just a few minutes. You do not want your face to be overloaded with makeup since you are going to sweat, soak in the sun or go for a swim. Here is a list of my favorite beauty products this summer.

Update: I have decided in July to become a Beautycounter consultant since I love their products so much and I want to teach people about safer choices when buying skin care and hair care products and makeup for you and your whole family.  Feel free to contact me directly for more information or if you want to try it out  emmanuelle@52.22.135.39  Note that this review was made before I decided to join the Beautycounter team, when a was a just a regular consumer.

A cream blush in a stick is so convenient.  You can bring it anywhere and you do not have to use a brush to apply it.  I love using Beautycounter Color Pinch Cream Blusher in Hibiscus.  It is easy to use and it lasts longer than traditional powder blush.  If you forgot your lipstick, you can even apply it on your lips for a color boost.

Beautycounter Matte Bronzer and Sephora Brush

One of my favorite makeup product is the bronzer. I always have one on hand all year long. It helps giving you a beautiful complexion on winter days or when the sun is merely there, and it gives you a tan look in the summer, without having to spend time under the sun. What I like about the Beautycounter Matte Bronzer is that it has a matte finish. So you can also use it for contouring! So it is like a 2-in-1 product.

I like to apply it with my powder or angled brush when applying in on my forehead, my cheek bones or my nose. But when I use it for contouring, I use the Sephora PRO Core Diffuser Angled brush (No 95). I apply it under my cheekbones, under my jawline and my chin, on my temple, and just under my hairline on my forehead.

bareMinerals Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream

I really love to use Beautycounter Tint Skin Foundation. When summer arrived, I switched to bareMinerals COMPLEXION RESCUETM Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream. This way I know that if I do not take the time to put sunscreen on, my face is protected anyway. As stated on their website, this gel cream is a BB cream, a CC cream, and a tinted moisturizer, all in one.  I apply my foundation with the Beautycounter Retractable Foundation Brush or with a regular foundation brush. You can also applied it with your fingers, but I prefer the brush look.

bareMinerals Primer

When I discovered primer I instantly fell in love. I used to buy brands you can find everywhere. I was not so in love with their list of ingredients. Recently I bought bareMinerals Prime TimeTM Foundation Primer. It is safer for my skin and it really works a wonder. All the comments on the Internet were really good. I now know why. And it keeps it promises: my makeup lasts longer.

When applying it you just use a really small amount. You wait until you daycream is well absorbed in your skin and then you apply the primer all over your face. You wait a couple of seconds for it to dry and then you apply your makeup as usual.

Beautycounter Glow Shimmer Oil

This one is my newest finding.  It can be applied on your face, your cleavage, your arms, your legs, or anywhere else you need a touch of summer.  The Glow Shimmer Oil needs to be shaken before using so the oil part is well mixed in the bronzer lotion.  It has a glowing finish and is washed away when you get in the shower or remove your makeup at night.

Waterproof Mascara

I like using Maybelline Fake Lashes mascara

You either like or hate waterproof mascaras. For my part, I used to wear it when I was younger. But I was tired of the next morning look. I was removing it carefully but there was always some residues left the next morning. No time to waste with the black residue, I switched to regular mascara. In the winter when it is snowing or really cold, when it’s raining, when you cry a tear or get soaked in the face, watch out for those black stripes all around your eyes! Oopsy!

Inadvertently, I bought a waterproof mascara a month ago.  I realized it at night when I tried to remove it.

But since I discovered Beautycounter Baby Oil (see below), I am all in with waterproof mascara. Waterproof means I am not scared it will run down my cheeks when I go for a swim, or when it is raining. I think I’ll buy waterproof mascara mostly from no on.

Beautycounter Baby Soothing Oil

I just started using this one. I used to never buy waterproof mascara because even if you try to remove it, at the end of the day, the next morning you always have the raccoon look! Same thing with deep color lipstick: you can’t never remove it completely. There is always some left and I usually put a light gloss above to hide the residue on my lips.

I decided to try Beautycounter Baby Oil formula. It literally changed the way I remove my makeup at night. What a wonder! Just a drop of the product in the palm of your hand and you then you lightly scrub your eyes and eyelashes or you lips and voilà! You then remove the rest of your make-up as usual and clean your face. No more residue and the oily feeling left by the product is gone too.

That is definitely a product you should have in your beauty case.

Youva Fresh Face

I tried all kind of makeup removers and face cleansers over the years. Last year I bought the Youva Fresh Face cleanser made from Canadian Glacial Clay from the glaciers of British Columbia, as stated on their website. This product is made in Canada, with Canadian ingredients, which I like. One thing I like is when my products are made close to home with facilities I know are regulated.

Usually, I use it two times a day. In the morning when I jump out of bed, and at night to remove my makeup. Also, I like to use it with the Foreo Luna Mini. This way I know my face is really clean and there is no makeup residues left in my pores.

What Do All These Products Have In Common?

My Foreo Luna Mini brush – My all time favorite!

If you read some of my last posts, you know I started last year to change my usual beauty products to more natural and chemical free products. Having children, I tend to look more carefully at what we eat or use.

Since being more careful about the products I buy, my children’s eczema is almost all gone. Our skin is less dry, more hydrated and more radiant. I am now making my own body soaps too. You can learn how here. Sure in general, those products are often more expensive than regular products full of unwanted chemicals affecting your reproductive system, your hormones and much more. But if you switch them gradually, you won’t notice a big change in your budget and you will get used and addicted to them.

You want to know if the product you use right now is safe for you? Because yes, many everyday products you can find everywhere are safe. Just look it on the Think Dirty app.

Are you making smarter choices for you and your family when buying food, beauty or home products?

  1. I love these recommendations! I definitely will be referring back to these as I have been much more careful about what comes into our house and put onto our skin now that I am a mommy!

  2. Love your post, to bad we don’t have the products available in South africa, but I’ll try similar products here for when summer comes, any tips for dry winter skin??

    1. I like to add coconut oil to my moisturizer in the winter or there are face oils on the market you add to your day or night cream or add by itself to your face. It does wonder I am telling you. Look at it on the web. You pick to formula that fits your skin type or your skin problem.

  3. Having a makeup product that isn’t full of chemicals is so much better for your skin! It is definitely worth the extra money for the product.

  4. I love love love bare minerals!!! Young living just came out with a savvy minerals make up line much like bare minerals that I can’t wait to try!!!

  5. I’ve not heard of this brand before now, I will have to keep an eye out for them or something similar. I do like products that are not full of chemicals.

  6. I have never heard of Beautycounter products but now I am going to look into them some more. I love your essential list, I find in the summer I don’t wear much makeup. I normally apply a facial moisturizer with spf, some waterproof mascara and keep a clear lip balm in my pocket.

  7. I swear that bareMinerals and waterproof mascara or all I need for the summer. This was a great post highlighting some really nice chemical free options that I think everyone needs to jump on board with.

    1. Your right! As long as you have a mascara you are okay! If more people were choosing to go for chemicals free products, they would cost less in time and regular brands would follow the movement!

  8. Congrats on making the switch towards more natural products! It can be a long road to switch everything over but I really find that things last longer and cause less irritation like eczema (that end up needing their own products!) I’m team Beautycounter but have a few other brands I love as well.

  9. I just recently came across Beauty counter and was interested in trying it out. I’ll have to check into the products and see which one to try first!
